Asking this question was one of my first childhood memories. Big Bird was easy, he was a bird. Some of the other Muppets were obviously make believe. Snuffy on the other hand looks like he should be an animal that I should know. A quick perusal of wikipedia shows his full name is Aloysius Snuffleupagus. Sure I get that he is imaginary but still the combination of a reptile, elephant, dinosaur, and woolly mammoth features all mixed together has really bothered me. As well as his eyelashes.
