The amazing can opener

I've heard that the first can opener was invented years after the tin can. This left me wondering if people just had tin cans sitting on their shelves wondering, "Man I really wish that someone would invent a way to open the tomato sauce, it's been sitting there for ten years."

The tin can was patented in 1810. The can opener wasn't invented until 1858. (Notice how I didn't say that these people were probably boys sheesh). Until that point tin cans were opened with knives, chisels, rocks or hammers.
