This was a fact that was generated by the movie "How Do You know?" It's part of an inspiring/sweet story. It's given as a gift to remind Reese Witherspoon that we're all just only one minor adjustment away from making it work. It really got me wondering whether that story was actually true.
According to wikipedia it was originally used as wallpaper cleaner. However, classrooms started using it instead of clay and then it was marketed as play-doh. This isn't the same story that appears in the movie, but I still want to believe the more inspiring version. Now I have to go look for a biography of play-doh.
