The Legend of the Sinking Library
I can't remember which TV show I was watching when I heard this, maybe the West Wing or Parenthood. You'd think I'd have a clear distinction in my mind between the two but apparently not. Anyways it said something about the IUB main library sinking an inch every year. The architect had designed it properly but forgot to provide support for the over 3 million books. I don't know exactly why this legend fascinated me so much. Maybe it's because I've slowly watched my own bookshelf bow in the middle which makes me wonder if my books are heavier than other people’s books. I guess it is just a legend after all but it's also a pretty good life lesson. Another interesting fact is that there's about a million books without a home in that library just piled up in the aisle ways. I'm sure they have everything from things about direct mail marketing to the classics. About what, I don't really know, maybe that I need a new bookshelf.

My dh came up with these wire supports to keep my bookshelves from sinking/slipping. It seems to work, but is kind of odd looking.
