Why Do We Wear Green on St. Patrick's Day?

My answer to this question is so that we don't get pinched and has been since I was in elementary school. This year I decided to actually find out, maybe it was the idea for a successful home business from someone who only had green clothes to sell. At wikipedia I came up with the fact that green was a sign of the Irish Rebellion of 1798. I was expecting an actual answer because the holiday has been around so long. It's not even the color of the actual Saint Patrick, that is blue. He did use a shamrock in legends and I guess those are green. I guess I’m just going to have to go back to my old answer of we wear green so we don't get pinched. Anyone else have any other theories or legends?
