Why Do Mounties Wear Those Uniforms?

We all know I love Canadians and especially the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They just seem so tough and rugged like everyone else in the world needs to take men's vitamins to be like them. I've always wondered what it would be like to have to deal with a Mounty. They have serious jobs but they always look so friendly and jovial and I think a lot of that has to do with the uniform. So I went on a search to find out why they had never really updated it. Granted, then everyone knows they are Mounties but still. Granted, they have changed from tan browsers to navy.

I was sad to find out that this has basically just become the dress uniform and how we depict Canadians in cartoons. According to wikipedia the everyday Mounty wear consists of dark blue trousers with gold stripes, a gray shirt, blue tie, and boots. This looks more like a policeman.
