Sailor's Valentines Facts

Ok, I decided that not all of my Valentine's posts would be sarcastic....just most of them. I really fell in love with the idea of Sailor's Valentines. I even like it more than the idea of candy although granted I'll probably be looking for quick weight loss diets on Monday instead of packing up my craft corner.

I guess I had never heard of them because I live so far away from the water. This tradition according to wikipedia originated between 1830-1890. The sailors would bring home little souvenirs; usually boxes and sea shells. Apparently, there wasn't a glue gun on board because it’s thought that the sailors just bought these in Barbados. It was just a really sweet thought. Usually I think of sailors as very rough so I loved the idea of them carrying home something for their beloved.
