World Record Cheaters

The longest word in the English language is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. This word was in fact, a hoax, which was thought to be be a lung disease that was caused by inhaling very fine silica dust, usually found in volcanoes. However, there is already a word for this, pneumoconiosis, or black lung disease, which isn’t the longest word in the English language.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis was invented purely to be the world’s longest word, so some argue that it doesn’t count. It's pretty much cheating. In that case, I think that Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious should be the runner up for the longest word in the English language.
