Universal knowledge?

I’m always surprised at the things that boys don’t know. I was on a date & the boy started pouring salt into his hand to see which was the salt shaker & which was the pepper shaker. I thought, you know everything about cars, baseball & boating but you have to pour out salt in your hand to tell which is which? Granted, these weren't glass shakes, or the kind that have an s or p on them.

At least in my part of the country, salt shakers always have more holes in them than pepper shakers. He was amazed when I’m imparted this wisdom to him. Is it just me, or is universal?
