Whenever you are want to stop a conversation, or start a fight, just bring up Barbie
dolls. Whenever someone asks me why I'm not married, I need to change the conversation fast so I usually go with something like "What's up with Barbie huh?" Here are some interesting facts that I found out from wikipedia that will definitely help the next segway.

- Mattel's directors & Ruth Handler's husband were not thrilled with the idea.

- Dr. Agnes Nairn at the University of Bath in England published research suggesting that girls often go through a stage where they hate their Barbie dolls and subject them to a range of punishments, including decapitation and placing the doll in a microwave oven. Dr. Nairn said: "It's as though disavowing Barbie is a rite of passage and a rejection of their past"

Hmmm...I never tortured mine. But they did end up playing out lots of Charlie's Angels type stories with GI Joe as the hero (Ken as the gay butler). I do have to say that my blond barbies were usually subservient to my obviously superior brunette barbies. And rightly so.
I still have my Barbie Townhouse from the early 70's. I have many original dolls (two still in their cases). I have homemade clothes made for my Barbies by my wonderful seamstress grandmother. Let me tell you, the psychadelic tops and bell bottoms - those are the coolest handmade clothes EVER.
Barbie rocks. (And this from someone who can't stand weak dainty girly-girls that can't open their own damned doors.)
