I remember being 12 & calculating that I was probably just now getting rid of the first piece of chewing gum I had ever swallowed after it had sat in my stomach for seven years. I don't know if this was just the urban legend that is passed around between 12 year olds, or if it was the general thinking at the time. However, I believed it. I've done some research & apparently your body can't digest chewing gum at all, & gets rid of it within 2-3 days. We still aren't supposed to swallow chewing gum but I couldn't find out why, not that I was planning on it.

Yes, I recall the few times I accidentally swallowed gum. There was this fear like, oh man, something horrible will happen. How odd.
