Can a penny kill you?

I should be a little more specific with that question. I'm sure that if you swallowed a penny & it somehow got lodged in your throat & you didn't receive medical attention you could possibly die. However, I'm talking about a different scenario.

I first heard this myth when I was about five. Supposedly if you drop a penny from the Empire State Building it could kill whoever it hit on the ground. This seemed so logical that I never really questioned it. I was afraid of visiting the city because I was sure there were a lot of people on top of the Empire State Building testing out this theory. I even considered some kind of weight loss pills so I'd be thinner & therefore have less of a chance of getting hit. Yes, I'm scientific like that.

I guess that I should have doubted this because I came upon a list of articles refuting this myth. Apparently, it has something to do with wind velocity & the fact that a penny is round. I for one will feel a lot safer if I ever walk by the Empire State Building.
