Usually people say "the dog days of summer". No one usually just says the term dog days. When I think of this, it's usually a positive association of lazy summer days. However, when I heard the Florence and The Machine song "The Dog Days Are Over", I really rethought this concept.
In the song it seems like a good thing that the dog days are well…over. So I looked it up. According to wikipedia it has a relation to Sirius the Dog Star and the Romans' belief that this was the cause of warm weather. It also defined "dog days" as "marked by dull lack of progress” I’ve never thought about the phrase in this regard but it seems like I really don’t get anything done in the summer.
