Happy Accidents: The Making of the Popsicle

The secret to having a lot of random knowledge is to pay attention. People will tell you the craziest stories all the time and then it's just a matter of figuring out if they are true. Every once in awhile I'll look at a cheese grater or Franke sinks and wonder "Why is that the way it is?"

For some reason last week someone mentioned how Popsicles were invented. I didn't believe them. However wikipedia tells the same story. Apparently an 11 year old kid in 1905 named Frank Epperson left soda, water and a stir stick on his porch. The temperatures really dropped that night in San Francisco and it froze. Supposedly he named the result an "Epsicle". The official Popsicle site tells the same story, so whether it's true or not it's still a great story of happy accidents that I really want to be true.
