I've been a big fan of the internet site hulu. They have tons of free legal movies & TV shows. Alec Baldwin was on a commercial for the site. (I had no idea he had sales training.) I've never thought about how to pronounce the word. I just assumed that I already knew it.
Granted, I must have missed the day when they went over how to read pronunciations in school. I've always been saying it like hulu hoop. Alec says it more hooloo. I think that I'm right on this one, but it's their company they can pronounce it like they want.

I'm with you. I say it the way you say it, but am wondering if Alec's way is the "correct" way. I know your post has a bit of age on it, but I wanted to reply none-the-less.
I know this is super old but my husband and I were just having this conversation. He thinks like you and calls it hula (like a hoop), but the way I look at it... George Takei's character on Star Trek is Sulu (In case you're not a fan of Star Trek, it's pronounced sooloo, not sooluh... ), and it's only different by one letter. Just my 2 cents.
