Whew, I finally got a word right

I can't remember who, but I saw or heard someone say "laughing stalk." Ummm, ok then. Then I started to doubt my innate sense of sarcasm. What if laughing stalk was really the phrase? I've been saying/thinking/spelling it laughing stock all this time.

So I went to the dictionary & tried to remember the alphabet. Laughing stock (stalk) would be before Riedel. Yes, I'm just that insecure about all of my knowledge now that I've been questioning laughing stalk. The phrase is in fact laughing stock, meaning an object of ridicule. Laughing stalk is not a phrase. If someone says it like it is a phrase, I'll just have to mock them. I won't be able to help it & I'll be fully within my rights.

But if I was a laughter farmer, mightn't I have a stalk of laughter? Hmmm? Had you thought of THAT? HMMM?

Didn't THINK so.
