Random Holiday Facts: Julebukking

I'll admit that "It's a Small World" wasn't my favorite ride when I went to Disneyland when I was a kid. In fact, I thought it was more terrifying than the haunted house, with all of the creepy singing & dancing dolls. I thought that the dolls needed some sort of addiction treatment, the way they just kept singing over & over again. However, I started wondering what Christmas traditions around the world are like. I don't want to miss out on anything. I was over at wikipedia & I came across Julebukking.

Julebukking is thought to originate from Norway. Between Christmas & New Years people went house to house in disguise carrying a goat's head to worship Thor. The Christians changed this up a little bit. People still go from door to door in costumes & their neighbors are supposed to identify them, & the Julebukkers get drinks or treats. Sadly, this tradition is dying out but can be found in places with a lot of people of Scandinavian Descent like Alaska or North Dakota. I wonder if they can wear tiaras.

It's not if they CAN wear tiaras. It's that they SHOULD wear tiaras.
