Niagara Falls & Barrels

I was watching Wonderfalls the other day, if you haven't seen the series, you really should. Plus, the DVD's come with 9 never aired episodes. Anyways, it reminded me of my own experience going to Niagara Falls. I visited the Canadian side for a few hours, (& decided that I wanted to be the princess of Canada). I bought a book & a t-shirt & left.

The book was about people that go over Niagara Falls in barrels. I went over to wikipedia to verify this. In 1829 Sam Patch leapt from a high tower into a gorge below the falls & survived. In 1901 Annie Edson Taylor was the first person to go over the falls in a barrel, she came out unharmed. She said after climbing out of the barrel "No one should ever try that again." You would think that would've been enough market research for humanity. Since then, 14 other people have tried to go over the falls in a barrel with varying results. It's also popular to try & tight rope walk over the falls. Yes, you can possibly go over Niagara in a barrel, but why do you need to?
