Bad News for Lefties

I happened upon an interesting article that was chock full of random facts. Of course, I couldn't let this one go without chiming in on it. Apparently, there has been a rumor floating around that lefties can expect to live ten years less than their right handed counterparts. The causes? Possibly the use of machinery that was made for right handed people.

I had no idea the difficulty of being left handed, so I went digging at wikipedia. Here are just a few of the problems that south paws face, (well besides being called a south paw).
  • You can forget about operating a band saw.
  • Even a computer mouse is made for the right hand.
  • If you want a sushi knife, if has to be custom made.
  • Lefties often learn to write with their hand around the pen to make up for the fact that they have to write at a different angle than right handers.
  • Even left handed scissors aren't truly left handed because just the handle is inverted, not the blades so you can't see what you are cutting. Mailboxes are one of the few things that can be used by anyone.
The good news? The whole dying ten years earlier is generally though to be false. Anyone want to chime in on this with a story about a leftie who lived to be 105?
