Hallmark conspiracy?

Is Valentine's Day really a conspiracy started by Hallmark to sell more cards? I don't really know a lot about Valentine's except that people should give me presents. These facts are from Wikipedia but have reworded by me. That is why they sound all Sarakastic-y.

  • The Greeting card association estimates that 1 billion Valentine's are sent each year.
  • 85% of these are bought by women.
  • The first recorded record of Valentine's Day is in "Parlement of Foules" by Chaucer. Yeah, I haven't read it either.
  • In Japan, Valentine's Day is a really big deal, their seems to be more pressure on women to give chocolates to all their male coworkers. These are called giri-choko, which can be translated to mean obligation chocolate.
It seems like no one knows where the actual roots of Valentine's Day comes from. There is lots of speculation. Either way, Valentine's Day is still a day to buy me presents.
