Can you trust wikipedia?

A Dublin student added a fake quote to wikipedia attributing it to the recently deceased Maurice Jarre. Shane Fitzgerald did this as a means of testing the system. Wikipedia removed the quote because it was spotted as fake. However, the quote was just perfect for a eulogy.

"Music was my life, music brought me to life, and music is how I will be remembered long after I leave this life. When I die there will be a final waltz playing in my head that only I can hear." -Fake Quote

Many newspapers from all around the world ran the quote weeks after it was removed. I'm now tempted to go attribute "I like pie" to famous historical figures. I said I was tempted. I'm not actually going to do it because I believe in the theory that user generated content can occasionally be accurate.

Even wikipedia always makes it a point to tell researchers and journalists to check their sources. For instance, if I'm looking for diet pills that work, I'll go to several different sites. You would think that print journalists would know this by now.

But what kind of pie. Sure George Washington would be cherry, but what about Mark Twain, Harry S Truman, or Sonny Bono?

You can't just name pie and not give the flavor.
