What is ratatouille?

I always thought of ratatouille as a kid's movie I would never watch. I also thought of it as a fun word that I 'd never get the opportunity to say. For some reason, I always pictured ratatouille to be a mythical food, like ambrosia. Ratatouille is a state of mind.

I was watching the Food Network, & apparently it is also an actual food. Just not one that I eat. It sounds fancy, like something that would be served at boutique hotels. As far as I can tell it's a fancy french word for vegetables. It has everything from eggplant to tomatoes in it. You can also put it in crepes. I've never had eggplant but have always wanted to. It's actual an achievable life goal.
